Goaltending is 90% mental.

How much time do you spend on the mental side of goaltending?

Welcome goaltenders and parents to The Rock Goaltender Training and Instruction.  My name is Nolan Schaefer.  I am a former NHL goaltender with the San Jose Sharks and currently consultant and coach for Clear Sight Development as well as VP of Future Product Development at Clear Sight Analytics.

The goal in starting this online goaltender class and community was to stay in touch with students during a very hard year. We started off with some online camps and out of that grew and amazing community of like minded goaltenders and parents that want to learn about the position of goaltending.

Goaltending is mental.  It has many aspects to it and every goaltender and student needs  guidance.  Not just any guidance, but teaching and mentoring from a coach with experience at the highest levels of both playing and coaching.  Not only that, but also relationship with peer goaltenders that are going through and learning the same things.  When we join together and grow together we will get the best experience from the game we so dearly love.

Today's world is online. Hockey is no different.  There is a major component in goaltender training that can be done in a visual forum and an interactive virtual environment.  Here at the ROCK we are providing the highest level of online training and video tutorials in a private group for those who are passionate about the position of goaltending.

Live Goaltender Coaching

Goaltender Scouting Community

One of the biggest challenges on either side of the boards is recruitment.  How do you get noticed? How does a coach find the goaltenders they need?  Its always been a problem... until now.  Connecting goaltenders and coaches to solve the problem.  Video, contact information, done.

My name is Nolan Schaefer.  I am a former NHL goaltender with the San Jose Sharks.  I enjoyed a twelve year professional career and  am now a consultant and coach at Clear Sight Development, as well as the VP of Future Product Development at Clear Sight Analytics

I have been coaching now for six years and I love every minute of it.  There are ups and downs like any other job but its been a real blessing to have a labor of love.  Teaching and mentoring young goaltenders!

I started this company because I believe there is a major advantage in goaltender development from maintaining relationship with a larger group of athletes throughout the hockey season.  We are all busy and time is hard to find for all of us.  But with today's technology I can now help in many capacities at an affordable cost.  Not only that, but we can start our own team, our own community.  A place of support, information, and where PASSION meets POSITION.  This community will be found in the form of  the ROCK's  Private Facebook Group. (Don't forget parents are welcome!!!)

Being recruited as a goaltender can be very difficult.  There are only two spots for goaltenders on any team.  I wanted to make a place where we could all convene, show our talents on video, and have that be available to all the coaches that are interested or looking for goalies.  Taking the guess work out of recruitment for parents, goaltenders, coaches, and scouts.  That's why I am launching the  "The Rock".

Please take a tour of our site, sign up, and I look forward to coaching you soon!!!

" I highly recommend to any serious goalie the Video Game Review Nolan Schaefer and ROCK GOALIE has to offer. My sons game review started with a one on one video conference with Nolan and a Q&A (mental check up) with regards to how the current season was going. Nolan was attentive and offered up priceless anecdotal story’s of his own career that all goalies encounter and can relate to. Patriarchal is a word that comes to mind when describing his tutelage. He was particularly encouraging and understanding while providing solutions to the mental state of the game so valuable to a developing goaltender.

His game review was accurate, honest, precise and provided my son with instant results in his next game. Small little adjustments that produced profound results. I’ve hired many goalie coaches over the years and Nolan fine tuned some issues with a one hour video game review what others took 2 months to accomplish. He is the Mentor for a lifetime. "
